Error when turning off a virtual machine in VirtualBox

Post by Darktemplar »

Hello,
I'm getting the following error on Windows 10 host, using Ubuntu 20.04 guest. The instruction at 0x00007FFF914B9B2C referenced memory at 0x00007FFF914B9B2C The memory could not be read.
I clean and tested my both RAM sticks, reinstalling graphics, and reinstall virtualbox again

Start the VM from full power off, not save-state. Run until you see the problem happen, then shut down the VM from within the VM OS if possible. If not possible, close the Virtualbox window for the VM with the Power Off option set.

Please right-click the VM in the main Virtualbox window's VM list, choose Show Log. Save the far left tab's log and the next tab over (the hardening log), zip both files, and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

The problem only occurs when machine is turned off (both when closing form the guest and closing it from the host)

Your PC has a hardening problem, see Diagnosing VirtualBox Hardening Issues, especially the post on ExitCode=0xc0000005.

Your PC has McAffee AV & firewall installed. Try uninstalling that & rebooting.

The problem was McAffe after uninstalling machine could be closed with no problem. I also want to say that only shows that error but didnt have any problems with that. I talk with mcaffe but they said was a windows problem and windows says me that it is a virtualbox problem

All they do is pass the buck, huh?

FWIW Windows has a built-in AV & firewall that work well, and Virtualbox has no problem with it. The only thing McAffee et al would do beyond what Windows does is offer computer-fixing post-infection as part of the cost of their license. If you are computer-savvy enough you might be able to roll with just Windows-native AV&F.

Glad you're up and running!
