VirtualBox is so slow to run

Hello there,

I just met one issue - I have one Dictionary app named "Eudic" installed on my Win 10 PC, and I started one VM with Win 7 system. After a while of using Win 7, it would be very slow for every operations on Win 7 VM, so I checked the reason by way of guess and I found out VirtualBox was using the unrelated files, please see my attachment below,

I am just wondering why my VM would take these unrelated files up while my Win 7 VM was running...it caused my Win 7 PC running so slowly, and if I close the Dictionary software from my Win 10 PC, the Win 7 VM could work fine.

Can anyone suggest...? Thanks a lot!

It is actually more likely that these other .dll's are injecting or trying to inject themselves into Virtualbox. Windows allows this. It's how antivirus, screen-sharers, dictionaries, etc work. In fact, the whole Virtualbox hardening saga is because Windows allows 3rd-party dll's to inject, so Virtualbox has to be careful or malware could inject into Virtualbox and get lots more privileges.

VMs can be slow for other reasons. Start the VM from full normal shutdown, not save-state. Run until you see the problem happen, then shut down the VM from within the VM's OS if possible. If not possible, close the Virtualbox window for the VM with the Power Off option set.

Right-click the VM in the main Virtualbox window's VM list, choose Show Log. Save the far left tab's log and the hardening log next to it, zip them, and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

Thank you @scottgus1, by means of what you explained before I thought I had already gotten the point about what happened...I think it's indeed the Dictionary app was injecting something into Win 7 VM, therefore I closed the corresponding functionality of the app, then the VM recovered to the normal itself!

FWIW the log does not show the slowdown source that a Windows 10 host can be suspected of introducing: Hyper-V. Your Hyper-V is off, which is good.
