Did Version 6.1.18 Break My VM?

Post by SarcasticWit »

I just installed version 6.1.18 and now when I try to start my VM I get the following error:

*****
The exception Breakpoint
A breakpoint has been reached.
(0x80000003) occurred in the application at location 0xa7423052.

Click on OK to terminate the program
*****

I had no problems with my VM up till now...

I had properly shut down the VM, and VB, and had restarted my computer before attempting to update VB.

How do I either fix this, or revert back to the previous version?

This is really frustrating!!!

Apparently it has cleared itself and now appears to be running fine...

Glad you're up and running again. Sounds like a one-off glitch. If it comes back, please let us know.

This issue has popped up again...

Last time it cleared itself up when I rebooted my computer after the update, however, it isn't working...this is one reason I tend to avoid updates, but I got tired of the nag screen...

So, how do I fix this, or revert back to an earlier version?...

Thanks in advance!

There should be a "don't show this again" box.

Please right-click the VM in the main Virtualbox window's VM list, choose Show Log.
Save all five logs, zip the log files, and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

Thanks for the logs. Your PC is having an unusual hardening error ExitCode=0x80000003, same as your error message says. The VM dies as soon as it attempts to power up:
00:00:04.155058 Changing the VM state from 'POWERING_ON' to 'RUNNING'
00:00:04.155058 Console: Machine state changed to 'Running'
00:00:04.187281
00:00:04.187281 !!Assertion Failed!!
00:00:04.187281 Expression: <NULL>
The host OS is Windows 8.1, and an older but not theoretically ancient 2013-ish AMD A10-6800K APU. Either there's a bug ("A breakpoint has been reached" makes me think of a programming IDE that had a breakpoint someone forgot to take off?) or Virtualbox didn't install properly.

As a test I would uninstall Virtualbox, reboot, then reinstall 6.1.18 with right-click-Run-As-Administrator, even if you already have admin privileges. If an Admin reinstall does not work, you should be able to uninstall again, reboot, then install the old version. None of the logs show what that old version was, however. You'll have to look through your downloads to see if you still have the installer.

Meanwhile, the devs might like to know about this. Could you please post the zip file you attached here and a link back to this topic on the Bugtracker?

Thank you again scottgus1...

The version I had would have been 6.1.16...I guess I will try to reinstall that one, as well as uploading the zip file to Bugtracker as you suggested...

I give up...

I have tried to rebuild from scratch the virtual machine that I had and it has been nothing but frustration and failure...

Thank you for your assistance, but I don't believe it should be this much work to get this working as I had it...but I do appreciate the assistance...

Have a great week!
