USB disconnects when connecting to virtual machine

I have connected an automatic weather station to the USB port, to use it in the virtual machine I need to activate it, but it stops working on the host computer. Running only on the virtual machine, is it possible to leave it active on both machines, with the weather station software running normally?

Not when using the USB connection. USB is not sharable.

The only way to get it to be usable by both OS's is if it comes with sharing built into the USB device's software package.
