Oracle Linux(64 bit) VM not reachable from Windows Host(64 bit)

Post by ABHI_ORCL_23 »

Hello,

I have been trying to ping Oracle Linux VM IP from my Windows Host >> Command Prompt using command - "ping <<Linux VM IP address>>"
However it results in "Request timed out."

Background -
I have configured 2 VMs on Oracle VM Virtual Box ver. 7.0 installed on my Windows host -
1. Windows VM for running one application
2. Oracle Linux VM for running other application

I have enabled & configured in both the VMs >> Settings >> Network >> checked "Enable Network Adapter 1"
Attached to - "Bridged Adapter"
Advanced >>> Adapter type - "Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop"

I need to have both the VMs talking to each other and also be accessible from the host machine.
Am I missing some setup here ?

Further I would like to setup DHCP IP reservations I guess to have the static IP set for both the VMs as well.

Any suggestions / pointers are welcome!
Thanks in advance!

Regards,
Abhi

How is the host machine networked? Is it on a network which has a DHCP server? Is it using Ethernet or wireless?

If the host is on a network with a DHCP server, each vm should receive its network configuration from that DHCP server and have an IP address in the same IP subnet as the host. Have you checked that this happens?

Bridged networking sometimes fails if the network is wireless.

I always find that setting static IPs works best if you do it manually, rather than fiddle with DHCP reservations.
