[Solved] Windows 11 home running superslow Windows 7

Post by silentmonolith »

Hi. I have an Acer Intel Core-i5 12400 8GB computer running Windows 11 Home. I have installed Windows 7 64b on my VirtualBox and it was a painful experience. Installing Windows 7 took ~5-6 hours. Now, when Windows 7 loads, it takes about 4 minutes (not bad) but once it finishes loading, navigating through the menus and starting programs is still slow. It feels like I'm running Windows 95 on a pocket calculator :?
So far I tried the following things:
-in Virtualbox: increasing the processors from 1 to 2 or 3. Not a significant speed boost and it feels like the system freezes for a few seconds on/off during the booting process.
-in Windows 11 Home: I tried de-activating Hyper-V. Within the add/remove Windows feature, Hyper-V was not listed. Therefore I was able to find a guide that advised to use several commands in Command Prompt/Power Shell. The final command in PowerShell did not execute properly (something about Hyper-V not found or something similar). I also tried this command: bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off that executed sucessfuly.

Everything I tried didn't do much. Please check the log. Thanks.

Updating to the current VirtualBox 6.1.36 should give you a considerable speedup, and disabling Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Device security > Core isolation > Memory integrity will probably help against Hyper-V.
