VB kann .vhd nicht öffnen
Hallo zusammen,
vermutlich bin ich nicht der erste, der dieses Problem hat, daher sorry für ein evtl. Doppelposting. Also, folgendes Problem:
Could not open the medium 'C:\Users\praxis\VirtualBox VMs\SONO.VHD'.
VD: error VERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND opening image file 'C:\Users\praxis\VirtualBox VMs\SONO.VHD' (VERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND).
Fehlercode:E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Komponente:MediumWrap
Interface:IMedium {ad47ad09-787b-44ab-b343-a082a3f2dfb1}
In der betreffenden VM laufen bereits 2 .vdi`s (ebenfalls XP und w2k) ohne Probleme.
Freue mich über Hilfe, die mich weiterbringt.
thx
peter

Re: VB kann .vhd nicht öffnen
It seems that the "SONO.VHD" is not in "C:\Users\praxis\VirtualBox VMs" anymore. Did you move it?

Re: VB kann .vhd nicht öffnen
Can you please zip and post that failing VM's .vbox file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab?
Also, please post a command prompt "dir" command in the folder where the "SONO.VHD" is.

Do you mean the complete son0.vhd file? It is unzipped nearby 10 GB!scottgus1 wrote:Can you please zip and post that failing VM's .vbox file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab?

No, sorry, the .vbox file. Right-click the guest in the main Virtualbox window, and click "Show in Explorer". The guest folder should open. Zip and post the file with the .vbox extension. The file should be really tiny.

Re: VB kann .vhd nicht öffnen
OK, here apparently is the problem:
The Virtualbox guest says the "sono.vhd" is here:
It appears that your "sono.vhd" was sitting up one folder in "Virtualbox VMs" when the guest was running and the vhd got moved into the guest folder later.
The right place for the vhd is in the guest folder next to the .vbox file where it is now. We just need to make Virtualbox forget where it thinks the vhd is and find the place it is now:
Go to the main Virtualbox window and in the File menu open Virtual Media Manager. On the "hard disks" tab find "sono.vhd". It will probably be marked with a yellow warning triangle. Right-click it and choose Release, then click Release in the popup. Then right-click it and choose Remove, then click Remove in the popup. "Sono.vhd" will disappear from the list. Close the Virtual Media Manager. Select the guest, and open the Storage Settings. Add a new disk to the IDE controller, Choose Existing Disk, and browse to and select the Sono.vhd in the Sono folder. Your guest should now start.
The Virtualbox guest says the "sono.vhd" is here:
Your file is actually here:The .vbox file wrote:location="C:/Users/praxis/VirtualBox VMs/SONO.VHD"
Ignore the \ vs /, that's a Virtualbox thing, it does not interfere with a guest running. The dir command wrote:C:\Users\praxis\VirtualBox VMs\Sono\SONO.VHD

English is the main language on this site. Frankly it is an anomaly that a German language section exists. Why German but not Spanish, French, Italian, Chinese etc.? In the early days we insisted that posters use particular languages, but these days who cares? The poster posts in their preferred language and those that don't understand should use DeepL.

I'll be back after a corona break. It's still not working. In the attachment the current error message of the VM

Re: VB kann .vhd nicht öffnen
The error message in the zip says this:
Instead, the file has been moved to a different drive that was not mentioned in the Virtualbox configuration file...
I don't know what else to do.
Compare that with the previous diagnosis:Für die virtuelle Maschine Sono konnte keine neue Sitzung eröffnet werden.
Failed to open image 'E:\Sono\SONO.VHD' for writing due to wrong permissions (VERR_VD_IMAGE_READ_ONLY).
PIIX3 cannot attach drive to the Primary Master (VERR_VD_IMAGE_READ_ONLY).
There was a process given to move the guest disk file to "C:/Users/praxis/VirtualBox VMs/SONO.VHD" where Virtualbox expects it to be.scottgus1 wrote:The Virtualbox guest says the "sono.vhd" is here:The .vbox file wrote:location="C:/Users/praxis/VirtualBox VMs/SONO.VHD"
