Ich habe kürzlich auf einer virtuellen Maschine WindowsXP eingerichtet. Das Programm konnte zwar benutzt werden, musste aber noch aktiviert werden. Aufgrund des Alters von WinXP ließ es sich aber weder telefonisch noch per Internet aktivieren und konnte nicht mehr gestartet werden. Das habe ich erst nach einigen Tagen bemerkt. Damit komme ich nicht mehr an meine bis dahin gespeicherten Daten. Gibt es eine Möglichkeit, diese dennoch zu retten?

Natürlich, genau so, wie man es auf einem realen PC machen würde. Starte einfach ein Live Linux in dieser VM.Gibt es eine Möglichkeit, diese dennoch zu retten?

Booting the XP guest with a Linux Live-CD, as towo2099 suggests, can get you to the XP's data. If it is a little bit of data you might email it to yourself or upload it to a file-sharing site (Onedrive, Google Drive, iCloud, etc.) Then download it on the host.
If it is a lot of data, there may be other ways, depending on what host PC your'e running Virtualbox on. What host OS do you have?

Falls du noch eine andere virtuelle Maschine hast, kannst du die XP-Platte auch einfach als zweite in diese einhängen. Oder du mountest sie direkt auf dem Host mit beispielsweise Imdisk (https://sourceforge.net/projects/imdisk-toolkit/)...oder falls es eine .vhd ist, kann Windows das auch mit bordeigenen Mitteln.

Open the new guest's Settings, Storage tab. The guest will have a disk controller with its boot disk connected to it. Click the controller above the boot disk, then click the green + icon that adds another disk. Click "Choose Existing Disk", then click and choose the disk that belongs to your old guest. The old disk should now be attached to your new guest as a second disk. Boot the new guest and the OS should be able to access the data from the old disk.
