Another game, similar results.
So this is not one game, that doesn't work...
It's zero out of two tries.
What are people playing via VM?
Tetris?

Good! Did you do this too:
scottgus1 wrote:Restart the XP VM in safe mode using the F8 key.
Install Guest Additions with 3D acceleration option enabled in safe mode.
Reboot the VM.

Howdy, Scottgus.

Nope, I installed it the "regular way".
To be honest, I don't know how to start it in "safe mode".
When you press F8 while starting the VM XP nothing happens.
With an existing PC you would get into BIOS setup by pressing F8 during the boot proccess,
but nothing happens here.
Is there any shortcut or other way to reach the "safe mode" of the VM XP ?

The only 2 games which are running are from the late 90s.
Talonsofts "Battle of Britain" from 1999 and Diablo from 1996.
6 other games from the 2003 to 2010 timespan won't run.
Terrible output.

I guess I try your "safe mode" suggestion (if you can tell me how to get there)
and if this doesn't work as well, the the cost/benefit relation just doesn't cut it for me.
Hours of reading and effort and the overall results are really remaining pretty bleak.

Maybe a plain installing of a real XP on a real machine might be the only effective way to run old programs. :(
It's probaly like every other topic: faking and imitating things simply can't supplant the original in the long haul... :o

Thanx again for your tireless effort...

The window of time where XP looks for the F8 key is tiny. You need to keep tapping it fast while the VM is booting, not just press-and-hold.

I don't honestly know if it will work. This setup will provide the best Virtualbox can do, however.

+1
Lots of programs work fine in a VM. Games, not so much...

Time to say GOODBYE!

Guys, it was a pleasure, but in the end, the VB can't provide what I had in mind.
Just to play some simple old games in a virtual enviroment.
I reached the safe mode, but couldn't install anything.
But it doesn't matter.
This takes way to long and even then it is not secure whether it will work at all.

I will scrap VirtualBox and the XP machine and simply install XP on the other PC after formating the HDD!
While it is the hard way and again will consume some time gathering and collecting all neccessary drivers,
the final result might be worth it.

I hope you guys enjoy VB and have fun working with it.

Have a good one and BYE BYE!
Thanx for all the contributions trying to help me bringing me to the promised land... :)

Greetings from

Virtualmate

PS: Even the virtual machine shows, why it won't work!
