Windows Host Schrift bei 150% Skalierung kaum lesbar / unscharf

Post by gatemaster99 »

Hallo,

Cleartype optimierung....
Optimierungen in AMD / NVIDIA Software versucht....

Kein Unterschied.
Gerade 150% Auflösung wäre ideal zum arbeiten.
Vielleicht hat jemand noch eine Idee / Tipp?

Only thing I know of is the DPI settings in Virtualbox icon's Properties, Compatibility tab. I have no idea what to change though. Compare between the old computer and new computer.

Hi... it is all the same between both....
I also created a new VM with a clean Win 11 & also a Win 10 installation.
Same problem.

OK, thanks. We'll have to wait for someone else to suggest an idea to fix the problem.

One idea you might try is to set the DPI setting back to 100% inside the VM OS, then use the VM's Virtualbox Display Settings, Scale Factor to scale up the VM.

Hi.... the dpi setting inside the VM (windows 11 guest) is set to 100%
If I set the dpi of my Win 11 guest to 150% everything is fine.
But this is not ideal for me. I often switch monitors, so I want to change 100% / 125% / 150% on the fly....

There may not be a fix for 'ideal'.

Or it may be scriptable. I once had a command line program that could change the computer's screen size for a particular game, then change it back after the game was closed. Perhaps there is a series of command lines you can put in a batch file inside the VM OS to change the VM OS's scaling. Virtualbox does not contain any such commands. You'd have to web-search Microsoft channels for how to do this if it is possible.

How did this work:

The dpi setting inside the VM always was 100%.... I only changed it for testing....

OK, that's good. So how about this part?

actually I use:
Guest 100% dpi / Scaling by Virtualbox = 150%
In this setup everything is very blurry....

When I use:
Guest 150% dpi / Scaling by Virtualbox = 100%
It is much better, but it has some disadvantages => e.g. switchting to 100% needs logoff or restart / PDF Documents are not scaled.....

Good, thanks for trying.

I have no further ideas. We'll have to wait for someone who has a 4K monitor to try some further suggestions.

You should avoid the scaling by VirtualBox, if you cannot use integer multiples. And even when using a Scale Factor of 200%, VirtualBox will only quadruple each pixel and not enhance the resolution. In combination with the subpixel rendering of the guest OS (e.g. Windows ClearType) it won't get pretty.
