Mpack has a recipe for Android that worked for his test: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=92683&start=15#p464073. I tried it to and got Android 8 and 9 VMs running. However I could not make it be stable for my needs, and just bought a used Android phone.

Well yes, my recipe worked, but it was very limited - as Towo mentions, Android is not a supported guest OS in VirtualBox. Even more so that DOS or Win9x since Android doesn't even have a template.
I second VM-F4n's recommendation of Bluestacks. It's still VirtualBox, but they provide their own support and custom drivers to make it work well. E.g. watching a YouTube video is no problem.
