Mfg

I don't know how anything could be faster then the obvious file copy.

Maximum speed depends on many things:
the physical drive holding the VM (spinning platter vs SSD, how full it is if spinning platter, etc.)
the physical drive holding the data on the host OS (same as above)
the computer's CPU speed
probably some other things.

Comparing transfer speeds must account for all these things.

Please copy a file, time the copy, and post the file size, the time to copy, the drive type holding the VM and host data, whether it is the same drive holding the VM and the host data at once, what else the computer was doing at the time.

When copying data from a shared folder into a local VM drive there will also be small timing differences for old VMs vs new VMs. When a VM is new (or recently compacted) the VDI will not have reached a stable size yet, so every write causes an expansion. When the VM is older this overhead has pretty much disappeared.

So I'm not sure that one anecdotal experiment will tell us much, unless it's horrifically slow of course. If it's horrifically slow then the only reason I know of is that the VM is located on a horribly slow drive, e.g. a cheap USB thumb drive.
