virtuelle Maschine auf neue Platte umziehen

Hallo,

ich würde gern eine bestehende virtuelle Maschine auf eine neuen Platte umziehen. Was ist dabei zu beachten? Man findet diverse Anleitungen dazu, aber die sind meist älter bzw.auch alle unterschiedlich. Von "einfach kopieren" bis "virtuelle Platte auhängen" über "xml-Dateien editieren". Wie genau funktioniert es denn nun?

Die einfachste Lösung: Die VDI Datei (virtuelle Festplatte des Gastes) auf den neue Rechner kopieren. Dort einen neuen Gast anlegen. Aber eben im Laufe der Einrichtung keine neue Festplatte erzeugen, sondern auf die kopierte verweisen.

Bei Windows 10 Gästen nicht ideal, die müssten neu aktiviert werden.

Moving just the vdi file is like taking the disk drive out of one computer and putting it into another. The hardware might, probably will, be different. The 'motherboard' ID code will almost certainly be different, and reactivation will most likely be necessary.

However, if your source VM is a Virtualbox VM, you can copy the whole guest folder (including the guest's .vbox file, the guest's virtual disk file, and the Logs and Snapshots subfolders) to the destination PC, then register the guest's .vbox file in the main Virtualbox window, using Machine menu > Add. No reactivation should be necessary, since the .vbox file contains the hardware 'recipe' and all the UUIDs that are used for activation purposes.

If the guest's virtual disk file is not in the guest's folder along with the .vbox file, then the path in the .vbox file to the guest virtual drive file is absolute, not relative. the existing path to the disk file on the source PC must be duplicated on the destination PC, or the .vbox file path must be manually edited.
