Post by vvang »

Anyone running Virtualbox on FreeBSD?

Just wondering when 5.0 will be in BSD ports?

Actually that would be up to the FreeBSD folks.

How is the status of VB on FreeBSD? Does everything work, or are there missing features? Say, like 3D graphics? USB 3.0?

The status of FreeBSD has not changed. It is not a Supported Host, and you should ask on a FreeBSD support site if you have questions regarding their VirtualBox fork, if any.

I'd say:
for virtual machines
- EFI doesn't work properly
- NVE storage controllers doesn't supported
Just because VBox.ext.pack is not ported for FreeBSD :(

And now I hit the performance issue - when guest works very slow on a new Xeon E5-2687W v4 with NVE storages. Have no idea why :(

But if you need something simple - it works ok.
Some of my old testing servers uses FreeBSD + VirtualBox for managing testing environments.
But for new ones I'm looking for something other because of limitations I've pointed above.
