Acer laptop - can not install android

Post by sxk »

Hi folks

I used virtualbox for testing android apps for quite some time. However recently bought a new laptop acer es1-711-p1uv with intel n3540. I managed to install windows xp [I know!] and arch in a virtual environment under latest ubuntu. However I got android x86 live, android x86 install and also the same vdi - none of them work on it - it boots to grub, starts and then panics in kernel and drops back to boot screen. I managed to record the video and got the following screen grab. My laptop hardware bios does not have an option to enable or disable virtualization.

cpuinfo below:

Any help?

Thanks a bunch

Moved to "Other Guests" since the Linux Host forum is not relevant to the question asked.

Android is not a supported guest OS, its popularity and relevance on x86 is really quite minimal. You would probably do better with a Google search "+Android +VirtualBox" or asking on an Android specific site.

Thanks for the advise. I have searched online and tried various combinations of PAE/Nx/Vt AMD/IO Apic etc. Unfortunately no joy. Tried both the stock virtualbox that came with the ubuntu as well as the one from virtualbox site - 5.x using the instructions on VB website. May be the laptop cpu is handicapped - i;e; virtualization disabled with no way to enable it?

Hardware virtualization probably is not required. Plus the error message if it's required (and not available) is unmistakable. VirtualBox doesn't have an Android template, so what OS type did you choose in the VM recipe? The one I used for my one Android guest was "Linux 2.6 / 3.x / 4.x (32 bit)".
