Guest bootstrap loop after setting up guest additions

Post by vareg »

Hi,

Again I'm needing some help today, here is the situation : I have(had) FreeBSD 9.3 running perfectly fine as a guest on my VB 4.3.15(under Windows 8 Enterprise eval), I had Gnome 2 freshly installed on top of X and running perfectly well, but then, since I cannot do with a 640x480 screen, I decided naturally to install guest addition.

So I did :

Code: Select all

#pkg_add -r virtualbox-ose-additions
added the following to my /etc/rc.conf

Code: Select all

vboxguest_enable="YES"
vboxservice_enable="YES"
my current user was part of the wheel group already
but then, I rebooted, and now FreeBSD reboots in a loop.............

Also, rebooting in single user mode does not allow me revert my changes as it says rc.conf is read-only...

Does anyone have the slightest idea as to why it does that and how to come out of this loop?

Why post this in "Windows Hosts"? What relevance are you saying the choice of host has with this issue?

ok I misread the categories but then I cannot find how to move the post now, because that needs to be done by a mod ?
now being very new to virtualization, also very new to windows 8 and up to that point, nothing tells me windows 8 has 0% responsability in this. I do agree it looks like it's got nothing to do with the host OS for now, but this i do not know yet for sure, which is why I am here, because I haven't the slightest idea why the problem occurred in the first place.

Moved to "Linux Guests". I'll leave it for a FreeBSD expert to address your actual problem.

Thx but I've just seen FreeBSD is addressed in 'Other Guests', so shouldn't it got there instead?

Yes it should. As for you loop issue you probably need to ask the FreeBSD folks as you are using their version of the guest additions.

Well, we don't have a generic Unix forum so Linux is the closest we have, and certainly fits better than "Windows Hosts". "Other Guests" would work too.
