FreeBSD 6.2 panics in box

Did anybody installed FreeBSD successfully?
Is FreeBSD supported or support planned?

The next version will provide support for FreeBSD 6.2.

How about OpenBSD?- this Bug report[1] is rather old and still not fixed. So if I can help in some way to fix this bug - please let me know.

I installed VB 1.3.8 on a computer running CentOS 4 yesterday, and I tried installing both NetBSD 3.1 and OpenBSD 4.0 on it. Both failed, spitting out segmentation faults and errors about not being able to write to the disk. I also tried both dynamic and fixed disks images.

Here's some output from my attempt at installing OpenBSD:
(I)nstall, (U)pgrade or (S)hell? i

/: write failed, file system is full
Segmentation fault
#mkdir /test; mount /dev/wd0a /test; df
Filesystem 512-blocks Used Avail Capacity Mounted on
/dev/rd0a 3423 2930 493 86% /
/dev/wd0a 1479772 2760 1403024 0% /test
This is using a VM with 64 MB RAM and a roughly 750 MB hard disk image.

FreeBSD 6.2 works fine for me with 1.4.0 on GNU/Linux host.

FreeBSD 6.2-RELEASE works fine for me running under VirtualBox 1.4.0 using a Gentoo host.

<edit>

However, FreeBSD does have an unusually high CPU utilization (~80-90%) compared to other VMs: WinXP ~10%, Debian ~10%.

Working But...

Post by scubanator87 »

As mentioned before, ~80-90% CPU utilization

Also excess ram consumption. I gave the guest 384MB ram and i was looking at about 700MB ram used. I dropped it down to 256MB and i am still seeing 700MB Used.

Running FreeBSD 6.2 as guest and Fedora 7 as host. Virtualbox 1.4.0

I have a Gig or ram and a 2.0 GZ Pentium M and a 128MB ATI card.

Anyone know if shared folders work?

Shared Folders works only for Linux Guest oder Win 2K/XP/Vista Guests.

Otherwise you can user NFS / Samba / Windows Shares.

Thanks. Is there any plan to make FreeBSD or other Unicies to support the shared folder and other benefits?

BTW, I was able to drop my CPU utilization for a Gentoo Linux guest OS from ~80-90% down to ~2-5% by recompiling the kernel and setting the timer frequency down to 100Hz instead of 1KHz. FYI...
