kernel trap with install pfSense 2.7.0

Post by jpflathead »

When I try to install pfSense 2.7.0 I get a "Fatal trap 1: privileged instruction fault while in kernel mode".
This is on VB6 as well as on VB7. But only on machines with an AMD Ryzen cpu. I got it on 2 machines one has a 5300 the other a 5700. Edit:Both run W11 pro btw.
On a machine with an Intel I3 4th gen. there is no problem. Edit: Runs W10 pro.
Any idea?
Edit: tried on a i7-6700 and that is also no problem. Also W10.

Your VM has the green turtle, meaning Windows host Hyper-V is enabled. Try giving the VM 2 processors.

I tried W10 on the Ryzen 5300 (had the ssd still in the machine) and then it works. So it seems W11 based..
Edit: Booted W11 and tried the newest version of pfSense 2.7.0 (20230215) and now it works. And I used 2 cpu's.
And about the green turtle:
I have disabled Hyper-V so I don't know why this is displayed.

There's lots of other stuff in Windows that uses Hyper-V, besides Windows Features' "Hyper-V". HMR3Init: Attempting fall back to NEM (Hyper-V is active)

In each new Windows release the list of Hyper-V-based services gets longer. So 10 working and 11 not makes sense.

It would be good to know if the old OS and two processors worked.
