Faster than normal execution

Post by RetroMaster137 »

Hello.

I'm well aware that Virtualbox's primary goals doesn't include the good-old MS-DOS gaming. One would expect low compatibility or low performance, but none of it apply here. In general, it does the job: Make a program give a requested answer. It has less probabilities of a wrong result than NTVDM did, which is good. It's already better compatible than Dosemu. Except it does much more faster than normal, uncapped.
Apparently, some DOS programs (i.e. Kgen98, prehistorik 2 and so on) can't wait for the full frame to be drawn before drawing the next one. I know there must be a wait time between so those programs wouldn't render more than 60 per second. I'm getting at least the double FPS here, if not more.

Is it a bug or am I missing some configuration?

Virtualbox has an execution cap, see the VM's System settings, Processor tab. However, that might give you slices of burst, rather than a slower VM.

DOSBox is recommended for gaming instead of Virtualbox.
