[Fixed] can't map USB Devices with Mojave host

Postby jfk » 14. Jun 2019, 17:11

Hi,

after updating to latest Mojave 10.15 Beta I can't use any USB device of the host (printer, prolific usbserial) inside a Win32 VirtualBox.
Upgrading Virtual Box from 5.230 to 6.0.8 (including Extension Pack) didn't change anything

I guess it's an issue with some security feature of Mojave, eventually it's only a "feature" of the beta, but you never know.

When trying to map an usb device I always get the error:
00:00:45.880268 USB: Interface 0x0 on device 'p=0x2303;v=0x067b;s=0x000020a7ed5324d8;l=0x14200000' is being used by another process. (prot=0x0 class=0xff)
00:00:45.880654 usbProxyConstruct: Failed to open 'p=0x2303;v=0x067b;s=0x000020a7ed5324d8;l=0x14200000', rc=VERR_SHARING_VIOLATION

Is anybody running VirtualBox on a Mojave host and can successfully use usb devices inside VirtualBox? Out-Of-The-Box or with any tricks?

Thanks

Jürgen

You are not running Mojave (macOS 10.14). It sounds like you have installed the first beta release of Catalina (macOS 10.15).
Catalina is brand new and it's not surprising you are having problems.

My suggestion is for you to restore your host from backup and revert to Mojave (macOS 10.14) if the Win 32 VM is important to your work-flow.

Thanks, you were right, accidentally installed Catalina beta.
Actually this fixed some USB-RS232 issues on the host side.
Latest beta-update fixed the USB issues inside VirtualBox.

Thanks,

Jürgen

Great, thanks for letting us know. Marking this as [Fixed], even though it's not a VirtualBox fix.
