Re: VirtualBox crashing host 10.13.1b (17B25c) (#17150)
Thanks 'Matt L.' for the testing, this is indeed very useful information for the developers. Just FYI, they've replicated the problem, not sure if/when it's going to be fixed, no ETA.
I've also added the ticket information on the first post so anyone coming here can see the ticket and it's progress. Ticket #17150: VirtualBox triggers a kernel panic in macOS 10.13.1 public beta 1
Matt L. (or anyone else) if you could get a crash log (should be able to locate it in the Console.app) and attach it to the ticket, that would be of great help to the developers.

Thank you @Matt L - for one moment, when I saw the release I had hopes... ;o(

I can look for this at home this evening, but if the developers can reproduce the crash can't they get their own crash log?socratis wrote:Matt L. Re: VirtualBox crashing host 10.13.1b (17B25c) (#17150)
FWIW, they may not have the same setup and the crashes could be hardware related. I don't have any crashes on HS 10.13 or HS 10.13.1b1 or HS 10.13.1b2 so I imagine your crash logs would be helpful.

Got it. I'll look for the crash logs. FWIW, I'm seeing the crashes on a 2016 MacBook Pro Retina with Touch Bar, 2.7 GHz quad-core i7, 16 GB of memory, Radeon Pro 455 @ 2 GB video memory + Intel HD Graphics 530, 512 GB SSD.

In case it's helpful here is my most recent panic log (from last night)...

Not sure if the log is going to be more helpful/useful here or in the ticket. I'd suspect the latter...

Well, I was trying to be helpful, but I'm new here, and have no idea what you mean...
What, if anything do I do with the log?

Oh, I know you were trying to be helpful, by all means I didn't imply otherwise, neither I was meaning to. On the contrary your contributions have been very helpful...
What I said is that "the log would be more helpful" if you attached it to ticket #17150: VirtualBox triggers a kernel panic in macOS 10.13.1 public beta 1, because that's where the developers are looking at, not at the forums (mostly).

Re: VirtualBox crashing host 10.13.1b (17B25c)
Thanks for confirming that I am not alone with this continued behavior. Hopefully the devs will fix this ASAP since it is now affecting the production release of High Sierra with the Supplemental Update.Matt L. wrote:Just to save everyone else some time, the kernel panic is still there in 10.13.1 beta 2, which was just released.
The headless mode workaround continues to work for me with 10.13.1b2

Wait... what? Are you talking about 10.13 with the Supplemental update, or are you talking about the 10.13.1 b1/b2? Did the Supplemental Update bring the same "crashes the host" behavior?Stach wrote:it is now affecting the production release of High Sierra with the Supplemental Update.

Hi there S,
You'll have to forgive me but I completely misunderstood this thread. I haven't had VB of any version crash the host. Well, once so many years ago I have forgotten.

Huzzah! The combination of the just-released macOS High Sierra Version 10.13.1 Beta (17B42a) plus VirtualBox 5.2.0 runs correctly without crashing.
