USB isn't working. OSX 10.11 Beta (15A279b) VB 5.0.3 r102467

As a side note: USB was not working in VMWare Fusion but ha been corrected in Fusion 8.

plus 1.

I'm using El Capitan GM and VM 5.04 with guest os windows 7 prof. Here is the log
Windows 7-2015-09-10-21-56-28.log
(106.58 KiB) Downloaded 113 times
I've tried usb 1 2 & 3 to load a usb key (banks in China use such thing to encrypt the connection), none of them worked and all of them caused a crash. I can't even quit the vm except using system force quit.

To use usb keys in windows to operate the bank accounts is the most wanted demand of Mac users in China I think. Virtualbox has been always done well on this. At this time, as GM has released, Virtualbox should rationally take this chance to push on.

Look forward to the fix, thank you in advance.

Actually the GM was pulled by Apple. I think it might be awhile after OSX 10.11 is released - Sept 30th?) before VirtualBox fully supports it. OSX support isn't quite as high on Oracle's agenda as Windows.

Hello, I'm new here and I wish I read this earlier. I spent hours trying get USB to work on El Capitan GM. With the general public release just under a couple weeks away, I really do hope this issue can be resolved soon-ish. I am aware that Virtual Box is a free product, but USB support is quite important. The device in question is a scanner that I've been needing to work with (a Kodak i940). The scanner used to work natively with Mac OS X, but this ended in Yosemite. Meanwhile the scanner and drivers remains fully supported and updated under Windows 10. It's frustrating ordeal, but I'm actually somewhat relieved that I'm not the only one.

I initially tried VirtualBox 5, which recognized USB devices in the Settings pane of the Windows 10 guest computer, but the filters simply did not work. VirtualBox 4.33 doesn't even recognize USB devices in the Settings pane. Nonetheless I find that VirtualBox 4.33 overall works better on El Capitan, at least for Windows 10 guests especially in terms of smoothness, speed, and stability. VirtualBox 5 often crashed when I tried to select the USB device. Let's all keep our fingers crossed for fruitful updates in the near future!

There is good news and bad news. There is already an OSX 10.11.1 seed so it's possible the 10.11 release date may be changed. El Capitan is not yet a supported host and Windows 10 is not yet a supported host or guest. When everything falls into place I'm sure things will work correctly.

the bad news, there is no way to expect or know when VirtualBox and OSX 10.11 and Windows 10 are supported but it's unlikely that will all happen on Sept. 30th.

Okay. So is...

Apple changing the implementation of USB and all developers, such as Oracle, have to update their software to make it work or is this a bug that Apple is fixing?

I think this explains why my plotter cutter is not working. 4.x.x doesn't recognize the USB devices so I upped my version to 5.0.4 on my one computer and it sees it but won't work.

There is also a problem with OS recovery boot as it's extremely slow--if it works at all.

time to file more feedback reports. Be sure you all do too! Oh, and if you think you are going to install this on a system that needs to be working--don't waste your time. I do have it on several computers and it works well--except for this. You don't realize how one small thing can effect your entire day. You realize it's not so small after all.

Apple made some major changes in OSX 10.11 and it will take some time for everyone to catch up.

I have this same problem with MAC OS 10.11 (El capitan) host and windows 7 & windows 10 guest. Hard lockup whenever USB is enabled. USB worked OK with Yosemite, and failed after upgrade to 10.11

Had the same problem. Installed VirtualBox 5.0.6 and it got worse. Now my whole host system (mac OS X 10.11) crashes and my MBP restarts... because of a USB driver glitch. It's amazing no one else is getting this....

The problem depends on what other software is installed. There are a number of kexts that cause problems running VirtualBox and with OSX 10.11 in general.

As I have mentioned before, I have VB 5.0.6 and OSX 10.11 running on a 27" Late 2012 iMac, a Mid 2013 iMac, a Mid 2013 MBA and a 2015 MB. Soon to be running on a new 21.5' Retina iMac. The only difference between working Macs and non-working Macs is some have non-El Capitan compatible software running on them.

Can someone please tell me how this problem got fixed? None of my USB devices are being detected in the Guest Ubuntu. I get a blank list in USB Devices.

I am running El Capitan, 10.11.1 and even upgraded VB to the latest to check if that helped. No help.

As a guess, if you don't see any USB devices in the Devices>USB menu, you don't have the extension pack installed.
