Kernel panic running VM under Monterey

I successfully installed VirtualBox 1.6.26 + Extensions. The VM begins to load (i.e. no -1908 error due to missing kext), but then there is an almost immediate kernel panic.

I am running Monterey on 2017 iMac 18,3 intel machine.

Has anyone managed to successfully run a VM on a Monterey host?
