VMSVGA and VBoxSVGA not working with EFI guest

Post by sepotvin »

Hi,

When I try to boot a guest configured to use EFI mode with either VMSVGA or VBoxSVGA, I only get a black screen. The VirtualBox logo doesn't appear and I can't get into the EFI BIOS pages. The guest is a Gentoo Linux installed with Sakaki's EFI install guide. If I select VBoxVGA, the VM boot properly.

Confirmed. The guest has absolutely nothing to do with this, you can create a new VM with nothing on it (no CDs/HDs) and you still fail to get to the EFI shell. That's why I guess they have that "special OSes only" warning...

The only OS that *requires* EFI is OSX and at the moment the OSX guests are set to use VBoxVGA.
