handles issue beta 3

Post by johnlee »

Can't run my existing ubuntu vms on beta3 - same vms been running fine on beta2
for last week or so running on win 7 64 16G

Just went back to beta 2 and the vms are still broken, so has beta3 generated lots more handles than normal?

Is there a fix?

NB although this relates to no handles free don't think it is same fault as mhanor's reported on 4th june, which was said by vb folks to be audio related. I'm not using audio at all! j

It's the same issue and it was explained here
You can disable audio in the VM settings (untick Enable Audio),or you can change the audio controller from AC97 to Intel HD or leave AC97 and select the Host audio driver as Null audio driver.

Confirmed.

Only the combination:
-- Host Audio Driver: ALSA Audio Driver
-- Audio Controler: ICH AC97
shows the problem.

Of all other combinations only:
-- Host Audio Driver: PulseAudio
-- Audio Controler: ICH AC97
produces sound (for me?).

Yes, agreed - thanks mhanor, unticking audio here fixes it - I didn't connect it to your original bug report since I don't use audio and it appears to break my ubuntu vms for previous betas too! Dohhhhhh j

As well as fix, what about more clarity in the 'not enough handles' error message eg suggesting the reason? Thought handles were about files - hadn't realised that not enough handles could be audio related!
