[No Bug] VB 5.1.0 BETA2 fails to install on openSUSE Leap

Post by mfelker »

Never saw this before. Is there some kind of environment variable that needs to be set. I have a genuine AMD Althon processor.

sudo ./VirtualBox-5.1.0_BETA2-107840-Linux_x86.run
Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing VirtualBox for Linux installation.............
VirtualBox Version 5.1.0_BETA2 r107840 (2016-06-06T19:04:00Z) installer
Detected unsupported amd64 environment.

Downloading RPM for openSUSE 13.2 and SLES. Don't have much hope but I'' try them

This rpm worked just fine after adding myself to vboxusers and running the vboxconfig script for SUSE. Guest additions and extention pack installed fine also

VirtualBox-5.1-5.1.0_BETA2_107840_openSUSE132-1.x86_64.rpm

Regarding the .run package: You need to install the amd64 .run package, not the x86 one. But the Beta 2 .run packages have a problem with the Qt GUI on recent Linux distributions (will be fixed in Beta 3). Therefore the .rpm is the better choice.

I must have cut and pasted the wrong file - I did install the amd64 version. I had a problem with my Ubuntu 16.10 VM and had to remove it but it had nothing to due with VB. All other Linux boxes worked great. On my dual boot Windows 10 the last Preview Build (14366) broke Hyper-V completely so I'm using the Windows BETA also and VM are completaely compatible when I copy them to either filesystem (NTFS and Ext4). VMware WS 12 works fine as well although for some reason I haven't been able to track down I need to change NAT to Bridged Networking when I move to Linux as well as disabling 3-D acceleration.

Glad youi guys fixed the problems with Windows Preview Builds.
