Aero in guest was broken with fglrx on host

Post by RussianNeuroMancer »

Host: Kubuntu 11.04 x86_64, updated, Catalyst 11.6.
Guest: Windows 7 SP1 x86_64.
VirtualBox 4.1 Beta 3.

Just look at attached screenshots. Probably there is bug in fglrx driver, so I request to VirtualBox developers contact with AMD to solve this issue.

If you consider that the same or similar problems have been reported with all kinds of graphics hardware under Windows it might just be the guest WDDM driver...

Look at attached screenshot. There is such bugs under Windows or with nVidia/Intel/FOSS drivers under Linux? I don't think so.
aero3.jpeg in indeed fglrx issue.

Then you would be wrong. Yes this is happening under a lot of different types of adapters and OSes.
Seems better now with Beta3 but this stuff is experimental and a work in progress.

For me bug, what you see on aero3.jpeg screenshot, is easly reproduced on any AMD GPU with fglrx, but never reproduced on any kind of nVidia GPU and Intel GPU. It's also doesn't reproduced on AMD GPU with FOSS driver. So I still sure, at least for Linux-version of VB this bug is reproduced only with fglrx.

Can you please open the bug report with AMD, and drop a link here? (suggest them to download our VBox 4.1.0)

I post link to bugtracker for developers. I am not developer.
If I try to send request to customer service, they refuse to accept this request because VirtualBox 4.1 is still Beta (I talk with AMD customer serivce enough to predict this kind of response :D ).

VirtualBox developers better than I can find what exactly broken in fglrx and file proper bugreport to AMD bugracker for developers. That the reason because I create this thread.

Linux hosts - works:
NVIDIA + proprietary drivers
Intel GPU (? + ? driver)
AMD GPU + FOSS driver

Linux hosts - broken:
AMD GPU + proprietary FGLRX driver
