Direct3D: Timing incorrect

Post by Technologov »

Host: Windows 7, x64, Core 2 Q6600, ATI Radeon HD 3850, VBox 3.1.0-BETA3.

Guest: Windows XP, 3D Mark 2001 SE (DirectX 8.1 test). GA 3.1.0-BETA3 installed (in safe mode).

The timing is incorrect.
When I start Demo, it has sound track and graphics are out of sync.
When I start Benchmark it fails after several tests telling me "Timer Sanity Test Failed".

Good news: *All* scenes were rendered correctly !

Problem still exists. I have upgraded both hosts to VBox 3.1.0 Final and upgraded GA on both XP VMs.
Now I am confused... my second host works fine, not reproducible on this host. No timing issues. On my first host, the sound and 3D graphics are not synched.

Host1: Windows 7, x64, Core 2 Q6600, ATI Radeon HD 3850, VBox 3.1.0 (non-working host)

Host2: Windows Vista, 32bit, Core 2 P8600, NVIDIA GeForce 9700M GTS. VBox 3.1.0 (working host)

Guest: Windows XP + latest additions (v3.1.0)

It seems to be either because of ATI GPU or 64-bit host OS.

The good news, is that on Windows Vista the benchmarks run fine and i was able to score :)

It runs about 4x slower than on old AMD Athlon XP 1500+, 1.33 GHz + NVIDIA GeForce 3 hardware -- 1300 vs 5500 3D marks. (High performance PC of 2001)

For comparison, the host was able to score 25592 3DMarks (1024x768x32). Core 2, 2400 MHz + NVIDIA GeForce 9700M GTS.

VirtualBox team: Please put this screenshot on http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Screenshots -- Gamers would *LOVE* this !

Look at this screenshot and Have fun :)
