Installing VBADDITIONS in Fedora 12 Alpha VM

Post by backes »

After updating to VirtualBox-3.0.6_BETA1_51790_fedora11-1.i586 (Host OS: Fedora 11), I installed Fedora 12 Alpha as VM in VirtualBox. So far so good, but I have problems to install VBADDITIONS in this VM:

sudo ./VBoxLinuxAdditions-x86.run
Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing VirtualBox 3.0.6_BETA1 Guest Additions for Linux installation................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
VirtualBox 3.0.6_BETA1 Guest Additions installation
Please install the build and header files for your current Linux kernel.
The current kernel version is 2.6.31-0.125.4.2.rc5.git2.fc12.i686
Problems were found which would prevent the Guest Additions from installing.

RPMs in the VM:

rpm -q kernel kernel-devel kernel-headers

kernel-headers-2.6.31-0.190.rc8.fc12.i686

And, your kernel is not the exact same version as the headers/devel packages. Build 125 compared to 190 of the headers/devel one. Check my signature links too.

My error: forgot to update the kernel after having installed kernel-devel. Afterwards, I could install VBADDITIONS.
