Guest freezes and crashes with SMP

Post by torndar »

When I run a "make -j8 buildworld" in a FreeBSD current guest with 4 cores the guest will hang or crash within 3-5 minutes every time. Often before the crash FreeBSD will report an error with the virtual drive, the most recent crash claimed a process held a lock for far too long. The host is 64 bit Vista running on a Q9450 and VirtualBox 3.0 Beta 2. The log from the most recent crash is attached.

i haven't even managed to get through the installer before the guest crashed:

host: 64-bit fedora10, core2quad, vbox 300b1
guest: 64-bit freebsd 7.2, allocated 2 cpu's

update: guest what? turning off smp fixes everything, big surprise!
