VBoxVmService 2.2 - "Fireworks" has arrived!
What's new?
- Update to make VBoxVmService work with VirtualBox 4.0. Note this is incompatible with old versions of VBox, so stay with "Reindeer" if you are still running VBox 3.X.X.
The release is available from it's official Sourceforge Site at:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/vboxvmservice
Cheers,

VBoxVmService 2.3 - "Watermelon" has arrived!
What's new?
- Always require a reboot after installation;
- Reuse VRDP settings from VirtualBox Manager, and don't call modifyvm to change port anymore;
- Added an AutoStart option to control if a VM will be started automatically when VBoxVmService runs;
- Show full command line including path during log;
- Fixed a bug that meaningless chars are printed to log;
- Set service to delayed auto-start if possible.
The release is available from it's official Sourceforge Site at:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/vboxvmservice

VBoxVmService 3.0 - "Sweet Potato" has arrived!
What's new?
- Force reloading INI file when VBoxVMService commands are executed;
- Always try to stop all configured VMs when service is stopped.
- Patch from Scholar Team and Harold Roussel: allow VBoxWebSrv.exe to run when VBoxVmService starts, giving access to the currently running virtual machines via phpVirtualBox.
- Calling VirtualBox COM API directly instead of using VBoxManage.exe.
- Service now runs as normal user, with username and password configed in VBoxVmService.ini.

VBoxVmService 3.1 - "Coconut" has arrived!
What's new?
- Updated COM API to make it work with VirtualBox 4.2. Note this is not compatible with old versions of VirtualBox. If you need to use VirtualBox 4.1.X, please stay with 3.0 "Sweet Potato".
- Service now runs (again) as LocalSystem account by default.
- Allow additional parameters to be set for VBoxWebSrv.exe.
- Service is no longer set to DelayedAutostart. It's now Autostart and depends on Workstation and COM+.
- Fixed a bug in sending pipe commands: need to write an additional null byte at end of message;
- Removed pipelcat to simplify pipe comminucation;
- Fixed compile warnings.

Re: [VBoxVmService] -> Announcements
Good job for keeping updates.
Actually keep major version at sync has small advantage. I. E. You could call it v4.2 instead of 3.1.
Benefits :
1. Easier marketing

Re: [VBoxVmService] -> Announcements
@Technologov: That is actually a great idea. We should definitely do that for future releases.
A good date to sync up with the VirtualBox Release ID would be the upcoming 5th anniversary of VBoxVmService. I'll check back with the guys on that issue.
cheers, mattz

Re: [VBoxVmService] -> Announcements
Introducing VmServiceTray, and VBoxVmService 4.0
What is VmServiceTray? It is a system-tray control to interact with the VMs controlled by VBoxVmService. It works as the GUI counterpart to VmServiceControl.exe. It shows all configured VMs and their states, allows single VMs to be started/stopped. It can also be used to start/stop VBoxVmService directly (with UAC elevation on Vista and later).
This has been a long wanted feature since several years ago. Why hasn't it been added earlier? Well, mainly because I didn't really feel a need for the tray myself. But I understand a lot of people want it and finally decided to give it a try.
After days of using I found VmServiceTray is much easier to use. In case I need to start/stop a given VM, I could simply run VmServiceTray and right click the tray icon, select the VM and select either start or stop. This is much convenient than opening Command Prompt, cd to VBoxVmService installation path and issue command "VmServiceControl.exe -su" or "VmServiceControl.exe -sd". Starting/stopping VBoxVmService itself is also much easier. In fact, I never feel need to use VmServiceControl.exe anymore.
To make it easier to use, I've also added a GUI installer created with InnoSetup. It will create a VmServiceTray icon on your desktop, and will also install VBoxVmService service automatically, so that you don't have to do anything in Command Prompt anymore.
These will be part of next release (VBoxVmService 4.0). But since this is quite new and haven't been tested on machines other than mine, I would like to invite interested people to test, before it's formally released.
To try it out:
Hope you'll like it!

To try it out:
- make sure VBoxVmService 3.1 works fine on your machine.
- download the setup program at http://sourceforge.net/projects/vboxvms ... e/download.
- install over old VBoxVmService installing folder.
- open VmServiceTray and your should see all your configured VMs listed.
Hope you'll like it!

VBoxVmService 4.0 - "Bayberry" has arrived!
What's new?
- Updated doc about trouble shooting steps.
- Return detailed description instead of error code.
- Added a GUI installer created with InnoSetup.
- Exe files are no longer saved in git repository.
- The long wanted system tray icon feature was finally implemented. The newly added VmServiceTray.exe works as the GUI counterpart to VmServiceControl.exe, it shows all configured VMs and their states, allows single VMs to be started/stopped. It can also be used to start/stop VBoxVmService directly (with UAC elevation on Vista and later).
- Moved folders up to one level.
- Added a new command "VmServiceControl -l" to list all VMs' states.
- Removed ServiceName option from config file for simplify purpose. There is no need to change this anyway.
- Project is now built with Visual Studio 2012 Express.
The release is available from it's official Sourceforge Site at:

Re: [VBoxVmService] -> Announcements
Is it possible to use VBoxVMService with Seamless instead of VBoxHeadless?
Or does anyone know how to run VirtualBox seamless in a service?
Thank you,

Re: [VBoxVmService] -> Announcements
No. Sevices are not run in user desktop session anymore. Use remote access software (Virtualbox RDP server, MSRDP, RAdmin, VNC) to reach into your boxes.
