Re: Guest Additions 6.1.6 r137129 break graphic settings
And to answer wayland question. I don't know if there is a thread for wayland resizing etc. problems. Wayland does not make it easy for us since they don't provide RandR API and the word is they are not planning to. After fixing most of X11 mess it is our plan to take a look at wayland and see what we can do there.

Re: Guest Additions 6.1.6 r137129 break graphic settings
The test GA VBoxGuestAdditions_6.1.7-137622.iso resolves the issues for kubuntu 1910,
but NOT for openSUSE 15.2 (beta).
On openSUSE, resizing a guest stays for about 1 second, then
the screen reverts to the previous (small) size - usually 800x600.
Reinstalling GA 6.1.4 on openSUSE 15.2 resolves the issue.
Kubuntu uses KDE.

Re: Guest Additions 6.1.6 r137129 break graphic settings
So I'm wrestling with this graphic issue as well and the current reliable fix appears to be downgrading guest additions to 6.1.2. I've done a fair bit of digging but cannot seem to be able to figure out how to just downgrade GA. I don't see where you can download just the GA. I reverted the extensions pack back to 6.1.2 but that didn't change the GA. Do I downgrade the entire package to 6.1.2, install the GA, then upgrade back to 6.1.6 but not do the GA again?
Thanks for the assistance.

For Fedora 31,the 6.1.7-137622 GA behave the same as the 6.1.6 GA - need to toggle out of and back in to fullscreen to get the guest display to resize

Re: Guest Additions 6.1.6 r137129 break graphic settings
I need to know desktop environment (DE) next to guest OS distro version. Each distro comes with several DE flavors and RandR stuff behaves differently at each one of them. So please save me the guessing game and tell me what DE you are trying. On Ubuntu distros (some others are well most prob.) neofetch makes it easier to find out DE/WM type etc.

Re: Guest Additions 6.1.6 r137129 break graphic settings
What I did was leave the package at 6.1.6. If you already upgraded the Guest Additions to 6.1.4 (buggy clipboard, random crashes) or 6.1.6 (monitor resizing problems), then just downgrade *only* the Guest Additions inside the VM to version 6.1.2 by downloading the ISO file from:qsiguy wrote:So I'm wrestling with this graphic issue as well and the current reliable fix appears to be downgrading guest additions to 6.1.2. That CD-ROM image contains the same files you'd get when selecting "Insert Guest Additions CD image" from the UI.

Just tested gnome on Fedora 32. It works here. Please make sure that you use x11 rather than wayland. https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/qu ... e-session/ look here to see how to switch.

Been running on x11 for years. For me, too many glitches with wayland. Upgrading to Fedora 32 is on my todo list. I'll report back once I've done it.

To test the 6.1.7 guest additions you linked to (https://www.virtualbox.org/download/tes ... 137622.iso), I changed my Gnome 3.32.2 in RHEL 8.1 guest to Xorg mode (i.e. Wayland is OFF) and installed the 6.1.7 guest additions. With this dynamic resizing works for me as well as bidirectional clipboard. Thank you!
FWIW I'm happy to help with diagnosing and troubleshooting Wayland issues as you and the rest of the developers get to them.

Fedora32 with Gnome on x11 with the 6.1.7 GAs using VMSVGA + 3D acceleration enabled did not go well for me:Been running on x11 for years. For me, too many glitches with wayland. Upgrading to Fedora 32 is on my todo list. I'll report back once I've done it.
- I still needed the Host-F toggle to get resizing, but frequently it would result in a completely blank screen - the most reliable remedy to that was toggle out of full screen on the Grub2 boot screen and only toggle back to full screen once logged in
- 5-10 minutes after getting a succesfully resized desktop, all the open application windows went completely black. All that was still visible was the Gnome taskbar and menus
For the moment, I'm back using VBoxSVGA which, although not accelerated, is 100% reliable.

Re: Guest Additions 6.1.6 r137129 break graphic settings
Found the solution on https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Guest_resizing - delete ~/.config/Monitors.xml.
Note to self - RTFM
Back running smoothly with VMSVGA + 3D acceleration, although I still needed the Host-F toggle

Re: Guest Additions 6.1.6 r137129 break graphic settings
I wanted to add BlackArch - Archlinux to list of not working ...
This happened for me after updating from 6.1.2
reverting tool to 6.1.2 didn't helped. non of these suggestions now worked for resizing even installing Client from 6.1.7.iso . all other features are working smooth.

Re: Guest Additions 6.1.6 r137129 break graphic settings
Potentially similar issues here too...
I've noticed an issue with new installs of Ubuntu 20.04 (also Xubuntu and Ubuntu Mate) with VBox 6.1.6
I'm unable to select a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 (in the Display settings in Ubuntu, running as a guest) as this resolution is missing from the list.
My native screen resolution on my host PC is 1920 x 1080.
I've tried selecting the VMSVGA and VboxSVGA as the Graphics Controller just to see if that was an issue, but made no difference.
Doesn't seem to be an issue with existing Ubuntu Guests that already had the display set to 1920 x 1080 prior to using VB 6.1.6...
I also tried a fresh install of Ubuntu 18.04 (to see if Ubuntu 20.04 was the issue, but no)
Cheers,
Mike.
