Ubuntu 18.04.4 guest: shared clipboard doesn't work (on fresh VirtualBox-6.1.4-136177)

Post by McMike »

Hi,
I run Ubuntu 18.04.4 as a guest on Window 10 VirtualBox host.
Ubuntu shared clipboard stopped working after installing new VirtualBox-6.1.4-136177.
Yes, I did re-install GA 6.1.14 on Ubuntu - shared clipboard doesn't work.

Please help.

Thank you

I've rolled VirtualBox host and guest back to previous version, VirtualBox-6.0.16-135674. Shared clipboard is OK now.
Thanks, Pavel

It seems like this might be an issue with the 6.1.4 r136177 Guest Additions for Linux. I had the same problem with 3 guests, one Fedora 31 and two Oracle Linux 7. On all 3, rolling the Guest Additions back to 6.1.2 r135662 (but keeping 6.1.4 on the host) fixed the shared clipboard.

Thanks for the tip, pneumann. I've submitted a bug ticket https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/19336

Without a log your ticket is destined for that great recycle bin in the sky.

Thanks, it is good to know for future tickets. I don't have logs from problematic VirtualBox-6.1.4-136177 to attach to the ticket (already uninstalled this latest VBox). Hopefully someone would submit new ticket at https://www.virtualbox.org/newticket with log file attached (found on Windows in a folder something like c:\VirtualBox\Machines\Ubuntu\Logs)

On my test, this issue appears on Fedora 31 and Oracle Linux 7.7 as well.

The issue are Vbox guest additions. Vbox 6.1.4 with 6.1.0 guest additions works fine.

Thanks for starting the ticket. Have added my log file there and details of my Host and Guest system. Would encourage other users to do so as well to hopefully add traction to the issue.
Cheers!

The 6.1.2 GA are the latest that don't have this problem. I noticed that 6.1.3 dev GA also caused the problem.

Using VirtualBox 6.1.4r136177 on a fully updated Windows 10 host, I can add that the shared clipboard doesn't work with openSUSE Leap 15.1 as guest either.

Same with VirtualBox 6.1.4 r136177 and Linux/Ubuntu guest.

Downgraded to VirtualBox 6.1.2 fixes it.

Also confirm: clipboard copy (even simple text) fails after I upgraded from 6.0.16 to 6.1.4. Host: Windows 10. Guest: Ubuntu MATE 18.04.4.

confirmed it's doesn't work with Kali also.
Onyl the drag and drop and shared folders.

There is all the time something what doesn't work with Virtualbox after updating it. Last time the kali login interface, now the clipboard (this is not the first time) etc etc.
Is there anyone who test the updates before a rollout?
