Kali installer warns that all my data will be deleted

Post by sol1d »

I had similarly, almost exactly the same issue.

At first Kali installed corectly everything and all, but i just remove it for accident, without deliting the files.

After this I tried to reinstall many times. Follow your instructions. And tried again keeps showing the same issue.

I have tried, unstalling virtual box , deleting every register key, installign it again, dowloading different .iso, and this same issue keeps appearing.

@sol1d:
You have a three-year-old necropost, and your problem is not the OP's.

You see the Virtualbox guest window around the Kali installation message? That means your Virtualbox 'hardware' is working just fine and that you Kali guest OS is having some issues inside the guest virtual disk file. (OP deleted, you want to delete: not the same issue, so a new post would have been better.)

Uninstalling Virtualbox won't make the guest files go away. Just like uninstalling Word won't delete your .docx files.

Look at Section 1 in the Virtualbox manual, so you can see how Virtualbox guests work.

Your Kali guest already has an OS installed on it. To fix this, please tell us: do you want to start over fresh with a new guest OS, or do you want to save files in this guest, or do you want to get this guest booting again?

Ok. Further above your screenshots seem to show booting from the Kali installer ISO file or DVD. What happens if you remove the ISO or DVD from the guest's virtual CD drive, then boot the guest?

Then it seems you haven't installed Kali to the guest drive.

A typical Linux CD is a 'live CD', meaning it boots into the computer's memory without requiring the hard disk. Often the 'live CD' provides a program to install the Linux operating system to the hard disk. Then you need to remove the CD from the computer, and then boot from the hard disk. You will then be able to make and save changes and files.

And that's why the thread was split, given a new name, and moved to the "Linux Guests" area...
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.
