Very bad performance with VMSVGA

Post by Evilo »

I run an ArchLinux guest under VirtualBox (6.012) on Windows 10 host. I have enabled VMSVGA and 3D acceleration. The 3D acceleration performance is very bad. Around 50 fps in both glxgears and glmark2. Everything seems to be installed properly. glmark2 tells:

Code: Select all

=======================================================
    glmark2 2014.03
=======================================================
    OpenGL Information
    GL_VENDOR:     VMware, Inc.
    GL_RENDERER:   SVGA3D; build: RELEASE;  LLVM;
    GL_VERSION:    2.1 Mesa 19.1.6
=======================================================
In fact, I get better performance by disabling 3D acceleration and use software opengl instead (around 200 fps). My physical card is somewhat older (AMD Radeon HD6570); but I get way better performance if I boot Linux natively outside VirtualBox (around 8000 fps in glxgears and 2100 fps); so it cannot be that my card is too old. I think 3D is working correctly in the Windows host but I am unsure how to test for sure.

How about some solid evidence? We need to see a complete VBox.log, from a complete VM run, where the problem occurs:
  • Start the VM from cold-boot (not from a paused or saved state) / Observe or recreate the problem / Shutdown the VM (force close it if you have to).
  • With the VM completely shut down (not paused or saved), right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager and select "Show Log".
  • Save only the first "VBox.log", ZIP it and attach it to your response. See the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form.

If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.
