[Resolved] Login cycle after installing Guest Additions in Ubuntu 18.04

Im running VB 6.0.10 on my windows 10 machine. I am trying to setup a fresh Ubuntu 18.04 VM, everytime I install Ubuntu things go fine until I install GA and reboot. Once I do that, after I type the password at the login screen it just cycles back to the user. If I put in an incorrect password it notifies me like I would expect.

Ideas?

There should be a cog icon in the login screen. Click on it and select "Gnome Classic". Does it work?

annoyingly the gear is missing so I cant change to classic or use a guest account. I just reinstalled and used the 6.0.11 guest additions cd from the daily builds with the same results. I can login through TTY

Same Issue with 16.04. WIth this one I can get in through a guest login though.

We need to see a complete VBox.log, from a complete VM run, where the problem occurs:

• Start the VM from cold-boot (not from a paused or saved state) / Observe problem / Shutdown the VM (force close it if you have to).
• With the VM completely shut down (not paused or saved), right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager and select "Show Log".
• Save only the first "VBox.log", ZIP it and attach it to your response. See the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form.

This actually seems to have been fixed with 6.0.12. I appreciate your help and will save the instructions above for any future issues. Thank you!

So I am having this issue again. This time with Virtual box 6.1.30 and the latest guest additions for it, while using Ubuntu 20.04.3. I am attaching the log below.

Same deal. Fresh VM, windows 10 host. Install Ubuntu, Install dkms, build-essential, linux-headers-generic and then run the GA dvd. Login after reboot and it just flashes back to the login screen.

It seems that something is actually resetting all the permissions to root and removing the user setup during the guest additions install. There is nothing in my /home/*username*/ folder. I don't even have access to .bashrc
