Problem ubuntu 18.04 can't turn on livepatch button "Livepatch requires an Internet Connection"

Post by devnullius »

I think I found a bug...

https://www.google.com/search?client=ub ... 8&oe=utf-8

When I try to turn on Livepatch on Ubuntu 18.04, I cannot do it. The button is unmovable / remains in the off position. Some googling explained that this was a DNS resolvement problem on localhost, and possibly with IPv6 (127.0.0.1 and 127.0.0.53 being unable to resolve canonical URL). Please see the few results which describe this problem in more detail, here: https://www.google.com/search?client=ub ... 8&oe=utf-8

If anyone has a hands-on solution, appreciated. I'd expect more people would experience this!

Please attach using the forum's Upload Attachment tab these two files:

the gust log, from cold boot, to seeing this problem, to shutdown from within the guest OS, to the guest window disappearing.

the guest's .vbox file.

Please don't obfuscate anything, there's no private data in the files that will compromise your computer, and you may remove the very data we need to see.

Extension vbox is not allowed. And which log file exactly? I think it's also too big...

Appreciated :)

PS: the log file does contain personal information... Like path names and such. I consider that something to be edited... Just saying ;p

Phooey, should have added the ubiquitous "zipped" to the file descriptions, so they will fit.

However, we might not need the log.

See the difference between these two statements? There are 'private' information in the files, but nobody can hack you just by knowing your user name or your guest's disk path. But this discussion is beside the point.

This is the part of the .vbox I was curious about:
<Network>
<Adapter slot="0" enabled="true" MACAddress="08002750A14C" type="82540EM">
<NAT/>
</Adapter>
</Network>
I was wanting to see what network setup you had used for the guest. One of my guests has this in its .vbox:
<Network>
<Adapter slot="0" enabled="true" MACAddress="08002719BC53" cable="true" type="Am79C973">
<NAT/>
</Adapter>
</Network>
You may notice that there is a section in my lines cable="true" that isn't in yours. However, I find that another guest doesn't have that 'tag' but does access the internet. So I need to get a clarification.

However, check that your guest actually can access the internet from a web browser. If so, Virtualbox is working, and your problem may be just an Ubuntu problem. FWIW, one of the links suggested by your posted searches says this may be entirely an Ubuntu problem, regardless of the hardware, physical or virtual, the OS is running on. If you have Internet in the guest's web browser, then try inquiring in an Ubuntu forum, or go down some of the links in your search.
