Can't boot up 18.04 Linux guest on Windows 10

Post by kaffibaunin »

Host: Windows 10
Guest: 18.04 Ubuntu

I have encountered a problem on my virtualbox Ubuntu machine. I was using it normally for a couple of weeks until yesterday I powered off the Ubuntu machine to access my mounted external drive on the host and afterwards I have not been able to boot up the virtual machine successfully.
Every time I get dropped into BusyBox, even if I try too boot it up in recovery mode.
The message I receive is:

Gave up waiting for root file system device. Common problems:
- Boot args (cat /proc/cmdline)
- Check rootdelay= (did the system wait long enough?)
- Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; ls /dev)
ALERT! UUID=... does not exist. Dropping into a shell!

BusyBox v.1.27.2 (Ubuntu 1:1.27.2-2ubuntu3) built in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.
(initramfs)

I have contacted several people I know who are good with Linux but have not had a solution so far. My knowledge with these systems are limited so bear with me if I'm slow to understand.
