Ubuntu 18.04 Host and Ubuntu Guest Graphics corrupt

Post by jfftilton »

Hello,

I am trying to run a vm with an .ova from a class. I am running Ubuntu 18.04 and virtualbox 5.2.18. My vm fails on startup, the screen looks like the below.

I have tried the solution on ask Ubuntu labeled "Graphics horribly corrupted on Ubuntu 16.04 in VirtualBox, showing random strips of pixelated colors"

I want to post my log file, but every time I do it tells me I can't post urls...

I will wait a day and try again, but any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

Either upgrade to the last of the 5.2.x series (5.2.26), or -preferably- to the 6.0.x series (6.0.4). If you do, remember to update the Guest Additions (GAs) on the guest. See ch. 4.2.2. Guest Additions for Linux for more information.

You don't have to post a URL, in fact we really want the log here, with the message. And we need to see a complete VBox.log, from a complete VM run, where the problem occurs:
  • Start the VM from cold-boot (not from a paused or saved state) / Observe problem / Shutdown the VM (force close it if you have to).
  • With the VM completely shut down (not paused or saved), right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager and select "Show Log".
  • Save only the first "VBox.log", ZIP it and attach it to your response. See the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form.

Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.
