XWindows Issues

Post by Jeff N »

I have had a lot of trouble getting XWindows to run on an Oracle Linux 7.2 guest hosted on Windows 7, but just succeeded in doing so.

Hang on boot (after installing guest additions): Change display from VBoxVGA to VMSVGA in the VM settings. I believe this setting exists in Virtual Box 6.0.4, but not in 5.x versions.

Update xorg-x11-server-Xorg: It appears that the guest additions supports an ABI video driver version of 20. This corresponds to version 1.18. The most recent (latest version) I could find that is version 20 or lower is xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.17.2-22.el7 (in 7.3), which corresponds to ABI video driver version 19. So, you may want to avoid updating beyond that.
