Distro recommendations?

Post by Gunter »

Hi!

I'm desperately trying to get a Gentoo with KDE running inside a VirtualBox. But finally I must admit that this is just too much fiddling with details for me. :'-(

Can you recommend a Linux distro which runs with as few fiddling as possible inside a VirtualBox?

A perfect distro for my needs:
Prio1: ...works smoothly in a VirtualBox without much fiddling
Prio2: ...uses KDE (is this a problem with VirtualBox?)
Prio3: ...contains Gimp, LibreOffice and Firefox
Prio4: ...uses 64bit
Prio5: ...doesn't use systemd (would be nice but is just "nice to have")

Is there such a distro at all? Could you give me some recommendations?

Regards,
Gunter

If you want to make your life simpler then you could consider downloading a pre-installed .vdi disk image from OS Boxes. All you need to do then is create the guest using the default template for that distro, attach the vdi file and boot.

You'll need to do some basic tasks once Linux has booted such as usernames / passwords, adding the extra packages you need.

If you want something systemd free then look at Devuan which is Debian based.

My crystal ball is currently broken. If you want assistance you are going to have to give me all of the necessary information.
Please don't ask me to do your homework for you, I have more than enough of my own things to do.
