[Solved] Linux Mint 19 Guest Software Rendering Only

Post by djplayer »

Been using Linux Mint guests for a long time on Windows 10 hosts.
Enabled 3D rendering - works fine. I'll add VM box file as attachment.

LM 18.x works fine.
LM 19 will not come out of Software Rendering Mode even with latest Guest Extensions.

Virtual Box 5.2.22 r126460

What broke? Sure would like it to work. LM 19 has been out for a while now, so time to fix this.

Hi djplayer,

Using a recent Guest Additions test build should hopefully fix the issue.

PS: No need to install VirtualBox Test Build, just Guest Additions from above link.

Thank you

Thanks. That appears to have worked. I downloaded the ISO, brought up the VM guest, mounted the ISO and installed the Guest Additions.
I assume a forthcoming VBox update will include these.
Thanks again.

If you want to use the latest version for your host/guests, you should also consider doing the same for VirtualBox. If that doesn't work you should try the latest test builds. That's a generic rule, because VirtualBox needs to adjust for changes in each and every release. And this doesn't happen overnight...
