Graphics artifacts on ubuntu 16.04 and 18.04 when 3d acceleration enabled

Post by gileli2018 »

Hello,
I am using VirtualBox 5.2.12 r122591

I installed ubuntu 16.04 64bit and the guest tools, enabled 3d acceleration.

The result are:

I don't know why I getting this.

I don't have the problem on vmware player with graphic acceleration enabled but we can't use vmware player.

I having the same problem also with ubuntu 18.04.

Please help.
Thank you.

We're going to need to see a VM log from a complete VM run:
  • Start the VM from cold-boot (not from a paused or saved state) / Observe error / Shutdown the VM (force close it if you have to).
  • With the VM completely shut down (not paused or saved), right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager and select "Show Log".
  • Save only the first "VBox.log", ZIP it and attach it to your response. See the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

VirtualBox VM 5.2.18 r124319 win.amd64 (Aug 14 2018 12:39:01) release log

  • The Extension Pack (ExtPack) has to match the VirtualBox version. You have to download it and install it separately from the main VirtualBox program, due to its license.
  • The Guest Additions (GAs) would be good to match the VirtualBox version, for anything other than enhanced graphics support. You do not have to download it separately from the main VirtualBox program, since it comes bundled with it. Install the GAs and then eject the GAs CD from the guest.

Intel GPUs aren't the most powerful or the most compatible in the market. We've seen several issues over the years with artifacts.
00:00:03.663564 Host RAM: 8030MB (7.8GB) total, 4679MB (4.5GB) available

You are assigning memory to your guest, that you do not have available. Either close some applications on the host, buy more RAM for the host, or reduce the amount of RAM assigned to the guest.
00:00:04.684332 NumCPUs <integer> = 0x0000000000000002 (2)

You have assigned all your CPUs to the VM. The host is going to run low on resources, since VirtualBox cares about physical processors (cores), not logical ones (threads). See "CPU Cores versus threads" and "Why is it a bad idea to allocate as many VCPUs as there are physical CPUs?". Your i5-7300U CPU has 2 cores/4 threads.
