Hi, this is a heads up for everybody to avoid this particular kernel.
It's why Ubuntu 18.04 won't install from ISO either. You may only dist-upgrade to it, but have to use another kernel, e.g. 4.4.0-whatever, if you really need to upgrade. But you'd better not, until they fix it.
I could provide the logs, but you can get them anyway yourself if you're too curious...
Fact is, it is a known problem and it's all over the Ubuntu forums.

Excuse me, but what are you talking about? Everyone and their cousin has been booting and installing Ubuntu 18.04 from the ISO, including myself.
