Hi, this is a heads up for everybody to avoid this particular kernel.
It's why Ubuntu 18.04 won't install from ISO either. You may only dist-upgrade to it, but have to use another kernel, e.g. 4.4.0-whatever, if you really need to upgrade. But you'd better not, until they fix it.
I could provide the logs, but you can get them anyway yourself if you're too curious...
Fact is, it is a known problem and it's all over the Ubuntu forums.
