Re: Black Screen
No, it would be normal to see the usual Ubuntu desktop - assuming you have left it long enough to boot.
We will need to see the VBox.log file from the guest in question (zipped of course).

Re: Black Screen
The subject matter of this topic is a Linux guest, and therefore does not belong in "Windows Hosts". Moving the topic to "Linux Guests". Please ensure that your chosen forum reflects the subject matter of the question asked. Yes, you may have a Windows host, but that is not inevitably true of everyone who should see this discussion.

We need another log.Tune_Punch wrote:i think this is what you want andy
Right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager and select "Show Log". Save only the first "VBox.log", ZIP it and attach it to your response.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

Re: Black Screen
I'd give your VM a 2nd CPU, you have 4 in your host, you can afford it.00:00:03.931845 NumCPUs <integer> = 0x0000000000000001 (1)
Same with the RAM, I'd give it 1536 MB (1.5 GB). Much more room to breathe. Again you can afford it.00:00:03.931850 RamSize <integer> = 0x0000000032000000 (838 860 800, 800 MB)
Take the VRAM to 128 MB under the Display settings.00:00:03.932120 VRamSize <integer> = 0x0000000001000000 (16 777 216, 16 MB)
You will need to address/fix the VT-x availability. Your i5-8300H most certainly supports VT-x, so it's a matter of enabling it in the BIOS. See your PC's manufacturer help on how to do this.00:00:03.932322 HM: HMR3Init: Falling back to raw-mode: VT-x is disabled in the BIOS for all CPU modes 00:00:04.735307 Full Name: "Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8300H CPU @ 2.30GHz"
And finally, you will need to install the Guest Additions in your guest. See ch. 4.2.2. Guest Additions for Linux on how to do this.

Re: Black Screen
Yes. A VM with Guest Additions installed is a much more pleasant experience.Tune_Punch wrote:shoul i still instal them

Re: Black Screen
On the other hand, I think it was the 16 MB of VRAM. But in any event, I'm glad it worked out. Marking as [Solved].Tune_Punch wrote:i think the problem was vt-x
