Ubuntu 18.04 EFI Installation GUI lags

Post by AmeyaVS »

Hello everyone,

Sorry, in-case the discussion related to this already exists, I tried looking for a discussion but most of them are pretty dated.

Here are the scenarios:
I have 2 VM's installed of the Ubuntu 18.04 LTS with 2 Cores 8GB RAM each.
The only difference in configuration among them is the EFI booting in one the the legacy booting support in the other.

The VM with the EFI enabled has very choppy GUI, while the one with the the BIOS boot has no such issues.

I am running the VM's on a Windows 7 installation with 16 GB RAM.

Let me know if I need to provide any other information.

Regards,
Ameya

There is definitely something busted specifically with Ubuntu18 on VirtualBox --- I did a clean install last week and could not save snapshots; Aborted at 97% catastrophic image failure. Did a clean install today same thing --- except this time I disabled 3D acceleration and now seems okay with snapshot save.

Did notice the GUI was veeerrrrryyyyy slow after a while before disabling 3d acceleration. Have not played with the new config long enough to see if that will still be the case, but at least now I can save.
