Linux systems can't ping each other.

I thought that virtualbox since the host-only is connected to the virtual network that regardless if the network card of different vm are on different subnet since they are put on dhcp, virtualbox will automatically connect them to one another, thats why I can ping and telnet the other host but not the other one. Or am I understanding it wrong.

No. They should be on the same subnet. The one that you defined in VirtualBox Manager. By default this is 192.168.56.0/24. Neither of your VMs are on that range, so it looks like you've configured them manually.
