Android x86 Stucks & Crashes on VirtualBox 5.0.40_Ubuntu r115130

Post by Mikov11 »

I am using Android x86 4.4 r5 on VirtualBox 5.0.40_Ubuntu r115130 on Ubuntu Server 16.04 LTS. I am using this specific VirtualBox version because of weird amputations in the output sound of the virtual machine in other VirtualBox versions. After about 200 hours of operation, the Android started to act weird - apps don't start, and eventually it crashed to the loading Android logo. I think that this is related to the VirtualBox version or the VM settings. In the VBox.log file I see the following line a few times:

Code: Select all

PIIX3 ATA LUN#0: Async I/O thread probably stuck in operation, interrupting
Has anyone came across this issue?

VirtualBox 5.0.40_Ubuntu is (a) ancient, (b) not VirtualBox (it's a distro fork). Please install actual recent VirtualBox and then we can discuss it here. Otherwise, take thee hence to an Ubuntu support site.

Note also that Android is not a supported guest.

Hi mpack,
Thank you for your fast reply.
I have chosen this specific version because other official VirtualBox versions had amputations and choppiness in the output sound. Is there a specific version you can recommend using (even though Android is not officially supported)?

Thanks

I don't use Android in a VM, nor on an Linux host for that matter, so I'm afraid I have no basis for preferring a particular VirtualBox version. I do believe some of the recently released versions of VirtualBox had sound problems on particular Linux hosts which you could work around by selecting AC'97 chipset emulation instead of Intel HD. And I think the Intel HD problems may be fixed in 5.2.8 as well (like I said I don't use a Linux host so I'm not sure).

Thanks again for your help.
Is there anyone who did experienced with using VirtualBox on Linux hosts who I can consult with? (paid consulting is also an option)

Thanks

I gave you a little rope, but I'm afraid we've reached the end of that. If you are not using VirtualBox then there can be no further discussion of your problem here.

Hi mpack,
I want to use VirtualBox's latest stable version, but as I mentioned, I am having troubles with sound. Is there a professional you can refer me to, or a documentation about it?

Thanks

It's pointless referring you to a professional unless you are a customer, having bought the (very expensive) support contract. Otherwise you have to make do with advice from other users. If you have audio problems with genuine VirtualBox then you should open a topic to discuss that.

I'm interested. To whom should I speak in order to purchase these services?

Thanks

Have a look at https://www.oracle.com/virtualization/v ... index.html and there on the "Buy Oracle VM VirtualBox Enterprise" link.

Just note that the minimum amount of licenses is 100, so you're looking at (50+11)*100=6100$...
