Environment:
Host PC: Dell Latitude 5580
Host OS: Windows 10
Guest OS: Ubuntu 16.04
Virtual Box Version: Version 5.2.2 r119230 (Qt5.6.2)
Guest Additions Version: ls /opt VBoxGuest Additions 5.2.2
Hardware: USB 3.0 ports and flash drive
I have been fighting with this all day today reading through numerous forums, my guest OS is not able to see my USB drive.
Steps:
1. Launch Guest OS
2. Insert USB drive
3. Host PC see's the flash drive (hear the ding) and USB status on the virtual box is "Busy"
4. Right click on the USB symbol on the virtual box and click the USB drive > hear the ding again, USB drive is no longer available on the host, but I am not able to see the drive on my guest PC. Virtual Box USB drive status is captured.
When I run lsblk, or lsusb I do not see my USB drive.
Please advise.

Re: USB 3.0 drive not being detected on Ubuntu Guest
I finally figured it out!!!!!!!!!!!
I did the following things and one of them fixed it not exactly sure which one.
1. Re-installed virtual box but ran the installer as administrator\
2. Uninstalled Mcafee safe connect software
3. Uninstalled all Dell software that came with the laoptop (Data encryption etc)
Launched virtual box and boom it worked.

Re: USB 3.0 drive not being detected on Ubuntu Guest
I can share the feeling, it could be any of the three, although most probably it was the "Run-as-Administrator". With Win10 I believe that it might more and more important. Glad you got it going. Marking as [Solved].Nitin123 wrote:one of them fixed it not exactly sure which one.
