Kubuntu 17.10 guest on Windows 7 Host

Hi

Been struggling to get Samba setup. I have managed to share the folder (/home/www) I want to the point that I can see it on the host Win7 machine.

On my windows machine its coming up under Network as
JCBOX
¦__jcwww

jcwww is the /home/www fodler

Entry time I try click it it asks me for the network password. I tried using the Guest Admin/root password but that failed. So I am assuming I need to somehow configure the Linux guest.

I also tried using the 'net use x: \\JCBOX\jc-www' command but wasnt expecting that to work.

On the Guest the share was created simply by right clicking the folder, going to Share tab, enabling Samba, giving it a name etc.

In the end, all I want to be able to do is mount the Linux share as a network drive in windows so I can edit files within from Windows. (Web development basically on an internal network. I hate MAMP)

Since this involves SMB sharing, and since your network is setup correctly, I would try to search the SMB-related forums. I would suspect that it's the security in Windows that prevents you from accessing the share.

Just because a program that runs in the context of VirtualBox has a problem, it doesn't make it a VirtualBox problem. You're having an issue that has most probably nothing to do with VirtualBox, so my suggestion would be to treat it as such, as a native problem with the OS or the application of the guest.
